Steel Pan Ensemble

The OSU Steel Pan Ensemble has existed since the late 1990s. It was established through the efforts of Michael Bump, who was in charge of percussion studies at Ohio State at the time. The ensemble continued as part of the percussion department up to the Spring 2006, when the Ethnomusicology program assumed responsibility for the ensemble. Currently the ensemble instructed by Ken Archer, a doctoral candidate in Ethnomusicology, and it offers the opportunity of performance experience in an authentic steel pan ensemble that features a full range of instruments. Emphasis is placed on the music that has been traditionally played on the steel pans.
